Anaesthetic Clinic

Clinical Lead for Obstetric Anaesthesia: Dr Dominic McAtamney

The team of anaesthetists and anaesthetic nurses in RJMS provide care for mothers who require surgery or who become unwell during their pregnancy. Anaesthetists also put in epidurals and supervise remifentanil pain relief. RJMS is the only maternity unit in Northern Ireland that has a dedicated team of on-call anaesthetists. This means we can usually provide epidurals or remifentanil at any time – day or night.

Any women who have an underlying medical problem or who wish to discuss their anaesthetic or epidural can attend the outpatient clinic which is held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in the Centre for Fetal Medicine (located on the 2nd floor in RJMS). Referrals are made by the obstetric team.
